Help Donate to Children in the Arts
My Mission
Many children yearn to train in the arts but are unable to afford lessons due to the baseline expenses that are expected from dancers and their families. Meanwhile, many materials go unused at studios in close proximity that could go towards these aspiring young artists. Breaking Ballet Barriers aims to make dance materials more easily accessible and affordable to those who have a true passion for the art through creating a donation channel between these programs. I am collecting gently used dance leotards, shoes, and warm ups and distributing them to ballet students across New York City in order to help make ballet more reachable.
Hi, I’m Chloe! I’m a high school junior and pre-professional ballet student living in New York City. At seven, I started dancing at the School of American Ballet where I discovered a passion for physical movement and joy for performing when getting to dance in George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker and Firebird at Lincoln Center. Six years later, I joined the pre-professional program at Manhattan Youth Ballet. Through performing a variety of ballets, including Balanchine’s Western Symphony, Diamonds, and The Four Temperaments, I have developed the focus and confidence it takes to both excel and find joy on stage. I recognize how fortunate I am to have these opportunities and want to make moments like these more accessible to other students in the arts.
How To Help
You can donate gently used leotards, shoes, and warm ups and they will be distributed to aspiring young dancers across New York City. Look for the Breaking Ballet Barriers donation boxes at your school or studio and drop off your dance materials!
